Tova Lazarus (08-09) has been away at Camp Simcha for the past two weeks. She says " It was an amazing, amazing 2 weeks and I think that everyone in TD should know that if they are thinking about going they should try very hard to go. It will change their lives no matter what job in camp they have." In addition to her life changing experience at Camp Simcha, Tova's brother got married. Rena Blechner (09-10) is currently on a trip in Switzerland with her mother and grandmother. Her grandmother is originally from Switzerland and wanted to take a trip back there, Rena gladly accepted her invitation to join. While they were there, they hopped on a train to Italy! (Jealous?).

In addition to hopping all over Europe, Rena's sister got married in June.

What you're up to....

The past shabbos, Pearly Guttman (09-11) hosted a TD Reunion Shabbaton at her home. I have yet to receive pictures of the attendees but I did get pictures of these AMAZING TD cupcakes made by Tova Itzkowitz (09-10). She sent at least a dozen pictures but I'm only posting a few here. They had a lot of fun and it was so great for them to see everybody! Tamar Barak and Rena Lunzer were also present but left before the pictures were taken. The Shana Bet class of 08-09 recently had a reunion shabbaton in honor of Pesha Rubin (Tomer Devorah Alumnus and madricha extroidenaire) coming in from Israel earlier in the week. The shabbaton was a collaborative event with everyone pitching in things from food to supplies, their fabulous madricha even sent dessert in all the way from Israel. Missing from the event were Simcha Cohen (Amster) who couldn't make it from Chicago with her husband and Maya Beitsch who couldn't make it from Israel with her husband and baby. Last nights alumnae ooVoo shiur was a huge success! It was on Chet HaEgel and how misplaced priorities lead to mistaken perspectives. Plenty of alumnae were in attendance from the Touro and Stern dorms or their homes! If you are interested in hosting alumnae for the next shiur, contact Chava. Hey Alumnae,

I'm so excited to share the pictures from Alumnae Day with you. It was a smashing success and we had representatives from every Tomer Devorah year! It was wonderful having so many alumnae in the building at the same time. The program started with a "Meet and Greet the Students Lunch" where the students had a chance to meet the alumnae and get a picture of what alumnae have moved on to do. Lunch was made special for the whole school on behalf of the visiting VIP's, the madrichot (they're amazing, really) made a yummy French onion soup, Chava (that's me) made a salad with candied almonds, mandrin oranges and dried cranberries with a lemon vinegrette and Pizza from Doctor Toast accompanied them. The program moved on to the classroom (remember classroom 1?) for some inspiring and practical classes taught by Mrs. Bistricer, Mrs. Cowland, Rabbi Rosenstein, Miss Rudman and Rabbi Brown. The alumnae came away with many inspiring concepts to help them continue on their path of growth. However inspiring the day was for the alumnae it was probably more inspiring for the staff of Tomer Devorah to see how much our alumnae have grown over the years and how meaningful they have made their lives. We are so proud of you!

The recording is from a shiur to women in Passaic, NJ around 10 years ago (you will be able to tell from the difference in Rabbi Rosenstein's voice!). The quality is not great (it was recorded on something called a "cassette tape" that you may have heard about from your grand parents), but it is audible.

Since I value hard work and determination I have decided that it is only fair that I post Rena Lunzer a birthday sign. You see, for the past year Rena has been begging (and I mean BEGGING) me for a birthday sign. Her birthday is in the summer and since I don't make birthday signs for summer birthdays Rena was very disturbed that she wouldn't be getting one. As a result she launched an attack at the office window nearly every day for nine months. Rena even went as far as emailing me backgrounds that she liked so I wouldn't have to do so much work. Each time though I politely refused saying that I would have to make everyone a sign if I made one for her. But I changed my mind thinking that all of our alumnae would agree that if it meant so much to Rena to put in so much effort that she deserves it...right? Shana Bet 2009/2010 had their farewell banquet on May 31st. As it turns out, they were so busy making it such a special event that they forgot to take pictures. Catered by Miss Sarah Kesler and attended by Rabbi Fix, Rabbi Rosenstein, Mrs. Peled and Chaya Rochel the banquet was a beautiful affair. Chanie Rudman recently organized and arranged a second benefit concert in New York (the first one was in Yerushalayim) to raise money for Bentzi Gottlieb's Medical needs. This past Motzei Shabbos (okay, really it was the one before this past MS but I couldn't get the blog up before now :) Chaya Gitty Smith hosted a bridal shower for Chaya Rochel Weinstock in New York. TD WINS SECOND PLACE IN KEDMA!

Motzai Shabbos went by in a blur of excitement, and fun. Thousands of students and nearly 20 seminaries gathered together to raise money for Jerusalem kallahs through song and performance. Throughout the night the TD ruach was palpable as we cheered and sang, decked out in green and yellow (even the staff!). Finally, it was our turn...we had a great time on stage...and B"H we won second place! We came back and celebrated with a pizza party, and watched ourselves perform.
